Words

They say, The pen is mightier than the sword.
Shared thoughts have rocked worlds
Ideas spread abroad created revolutions
Journeys told have inspired change.

Words tumble jumble mumble in my head
Sleepless I lay dreaming
of what could be
Can I find a way to put into writing
all that I have inside me?

Wakeful I toss and turn
Pages turn in my head
Pages of books yet unwritten
stories yet untold.

If you build it they will come, goes the line from the movie.
If I write it, will they read it? goes the line in my head.

In childish games, I wrote books
In make-believe I told stories.

Now half way through life
I have things to say, words to speak, stories to tell.
Would they be stories you would read?

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
That first step into the unknown, the hardest step.

I have to start somewhere.

...................

I lay awake last night thinking and imagining how I could write my first book. I want to write a book; I have a feeling this is the year to do it. I've always wanted to write; but it's a childish dream that lay forgotten for so many years. Now, through blogging, that old dream has rekindled. But I find it hard to know where to start. I think I know what kind of book it should be; there's a few ideas that are calling to me strongly...

Self-doubt creeps in; fear and timidity... I could write something, but who would publish it? And who would read it?

I am trying to ignore those doubts. Trying to find that first step to take. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it all.

Go for it - kindle that flickering flame. I can see you have a gift of writing... and you have to begin somewhere. I totally don't - so I appreciate those who can put things/thoughts/feelings etc into words so well... and you've got the goods!

This Christian writer (fiction writer) sometimes has great tips and encouragement for people who are wanting to write (Symon and him get on well). Checkout his blog... http://mikedellosso.wordpress.com/

You so totally sound like me. When I can't sleep, I write in my brain the book that keeps banging around up there. It's so much more eloquent than whatever I type when I try to start it. There are a few scenes that I replay over and over and they're from the middle of the book, so maybe that's where I need to start? I dunno...

Good luck!

You and I could start a club! I write in my dream time as well, and this is the Year of the Book for me too. Exciting stuff. Let's talk, come over for coffee again...

I think if you just write down all the ideas that are going around in your head and see where they lead.

Don't write thinking it will be a book to be published but rather write things down that absorb your thinking and please you.

Soon it will take shape, you add to it, you delete, your refine. Just begin, that's the first important step

My thoughts is go for it, you may be surprised at what comes of it....probably something you would never expect!

I heard a famous author interviewed once (my sieve-like brain won't allow me to remember who) and he said "Writers write because they can't NOT write." As I was reading your thoughts, that line popped into my head. I think you should write to your heart's content.

Sing with me (The Carpenter's "Sing, Sing a Song" - paraphrased) "Don't worry if it's not good enough, for anyone else to hear....just write....write a book. Tra la la la la...la la la"

I think you might be surprised just how good it is and how much everyone else will want to read it. Kick doubt to the curb. Meredy xo.
