Awesome and Suckage

Awesome is...
Another year wiser

Suckage is...
Another year older (like me in ten days)

Awesome is...
Writing a post that shares your newfound victories

Suckage is...
Having "one of those weeks" right after hitting *publish* (and feeling like a phony)

Awesome is...
Nearly half a million hits on your little blog

Suckage is...
never enough time (or energy) to do all the things you want to do

Awesome is...
walking in the room and finding your boys doing puzzles together

Suckage is...
a boy off school for two days with another chest infection and a return of asthma symptoms

Awesome is...
a little lad who loves gymnastics, and can do backflips, rolley polleys and monkey bars with ease

Suckage is...
a bruise on your knee (from a fall at gymnastics last time) so big it covers your leg from
mid-thigh to mid-calf and makes your boys go "ew gross!"

Awesome is...
Having precious friends

Suckage is...
Precious friends whose mom's cancer returns... and is deemed inoperable

But as my dear friend Kristy always used to say:
I wholeheartedly believe that no matter what is happening in your life,
there is always something you can be thankful for...no matter how simple it is.

And she's right.

In the middle of the suckage, there's still the awesome.
In a week with low energy when it feels like you've taken a backward step,
there are still bright spots that remind you this is just a blip.
In a week when a friend gets the worst possible news, there can still be Hope,
especially where there is also Faith and Love.

So we will hang on to the good, because it helps us ride out the not-so-good.

How about you? What are you thankful for in the midst of something sucky?
